The Three Brains

You may know the sayings, “Follow your heart,” or “I had a gut-feeling”? There’s a reason people use these and similar phrases to describe their feelings or what compelled them to take a particular.

Although the brain is responsible for the actions you take, there’s more to it than that. You might be surprised to hear that your head, heart, and gut are all classified as “brains.” Over the last several years, neuroscience has shown that aside from the brain in your head, we also have a gut brain (enteric brain), and a heart brain (cardiac brain).

The Three Brains hand-out is a schematic drawing providing a basic overview of the three brains and the important role the body’s vagus nerve plays integrating them.

Loving Kindness Meditation

The goal of Loving Kindness meditation is to cultivate kindness for all beings, including yourself. Like other types of meditations, the practice is beneficial for mental, emotional, and physical health. It’s especially useful for reducing stress, anxiety, and negative emotions toward yourself and other people.

Self-Care Assessment Tool

Self-care is a fundamental priority for good physical and mental health, doing well in the workplace, having strong relationships, and contributes to what makes us feel and say, "I had a good day today!"

I created this Self-Care Assessment for two reasons: To give my clients an opportunity to reflect upon how they care for themselves in these areas of self-care (physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, workplace, and balance), and to help them identify possible areas for improvement.

The tool is also extremely helpful to me as a Life Coach in helping me achieve a better understanding of how much attention a client is giving to their self-care.

The Wheel of Life, also known as the Life Balance Wheel, is a visual tool used to assess and understand how balanced your life currently is. Using this tool, you map out the areas of your life on a circle that resembles the spokes of a wheel.

Self-Hypnosis

Self-hypnosis can change behavior, emotions, and attitudes. It can be used to increase confidence and develop new skills. It can help to reduce stress and anxiety, and can even help people overcome habits such as smoking and overeating. Self-hypnosis is also used by sportspeople to enhance their athletic performance.
